The Carterville girls basketball team toppled the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes 57-55 Monday night, Feb. 24, in Teutopolis during the Class 2A Super Sectionals in Mcleansboro.
The win gives the Lady Lions an historic run towards the IHSA state finals championship for the first time.
“They’ve earned this, they’ve worked so hard and this group has been together for so long, they’ve been so close and it’s just awesome to finally see them break that wall down and get to state,” Coach Matt Crain said after the win.
The Lady Lions travel to Redbird Arena in Normal, Illinois this Friday, Feb. 24 to play at 7:15 p.m.. Tickets are $10. Lions are now 31-2 on the season. Megan Barton and Jeniah Thompson scored 16 points, Alicia Doyle 17 points, Abbey Crain with 6, and Averi Vandersalle with two points.
