Governor to announce new COVID-19 guidelines

Governor JB Pritzker is set to announce COVID-19 guidelines one day after the state reported over 1,900 new cases of the virus.

The announcement is to take place at 9:30 am according to Pritzker’s public schedule in Chicago.

During his visit to SIU on Tuesday Pritzker mentioned going back to more restrictions and said if there is no change COVID-19 could affect the economy and health of the area.

“The COVID-19 pandemic which once seemed tame in Carbondale, and throughout the entire region, is now surging here. It’s worse than in Chicago. And I’ll be frank if we don’t see some change here the virus will cause some businesses to close and an increasing percentage of people to get sick and some will even die,” Pritzker said.

According to IDPH yesterday was the highest daily increase of cases since May 24. The total confirmed coronavirus cases in Illinois have reached 188,424.
